A Live Wedding Painting Gift at Island, Athens Riviera – Giannis & Alexandria

The first thing guests noticed was the size of it. Standing on the lawn at Island, with the Saronic Gulf behind it, the canvas stood almost as tall as I do — and completely blank. By the end of the night it held Giannis and Alexandria, the sea and a garden in full bloom: a wedding painting gift from the groom’s sister, created live in front of their guests.

Before the first brushstroke

An empty canvas, an easel on the grass and the late sun over the water. This is always my favourite moment of a wedding: nothing painted yet, everything still possible.

A wedding painting gift from the groom’s sister

This painting was not booked by the couple. It was booked by Giannis’s sister, who wanted her wedding painting gift to be something no one else could give them: their own day, captured as a work of art while it was still happening.

Her request was simple and very clear. She wanted the canvas to be as large as I could make it — larger than any of the sizes in my packages — so that it would become the centrepiece of their home, and so that every time they looked at it they would be back at Island, in that exact moment.

Bigger than any package

My live wedding painting packages come in set sizes, and they suit most couples beautifully. But a wedding painting gift meant to anchor a whole room is a different piece. A larger canvas changes how I compose the scene: the figures can stand at life-like scale, the background can breathe, and there is space for the details that usually have to be left out — here, the full sweep of the sea and the flowers spilling across the foreground.

If you have a wall, a home or a size in mind that the packages don’t cover, just ask. Custom sizes can be arranged.

The frame came from the ceremony

Every painting I create is built on one frame. For Giannis and Alexandria we took it during the ceremony itself — the kiss, the veil, her bouquet of white blooms against his blue suit — and I began painting straight away.

As the light faded, the easel moved under the string lights, and the canvas slowly became the place where people gathered. The enthusiasm around it was something I won’t forget: guests stopping mid-conversation, phones raised, everyone wanting to see the next brushstroke appear.

How it ended

When Giannis and Alexandria finally stood in front of it, they were enchanted. There is a particular silence when a couple sees themselves in paint for the first time — and then the smiles arrive. Theirs did, and they didn’t leave for the rest of the night.

A wedding painting gift this size isn’t something you glance at. It holds the room. And for a sister who wanted her gift to be remembered every single day, I think that was exactly the point.

Island has a way of bringing me back. Read how I painted Kati & Juha’s wedding at Island, a Finnish couple who crossed a continent to marry on the same shore.

Thinking of a wedding painting gift?

A wedding painting gift is one of the few presents a couple will keep for the rest of their lives — and the arrangements can stay entirely between you and me. Tell me the venue, the date and, if you like, the size you are dreaming of. My 2026 calendar is complete, and 2027 dates are now open.
